If one really only needs a minute or two of footage either side of an accident, why do we need to record 128G of footage? Also, what is the hardwire pack for?
The way Blackvue Dash Cameras, and in fact almost all dash cameras work, is that they record until the memory card is full and then they overwrite themselves. For example, a Blackvue DR650S-2CH with a 16Gb memory card in it operating in Full HD (Front) and HD (Rear) at 30 frames per second will record approximately 2 hours and 10 minutes at the highest quality before overwriting itself. The same mode settings with a 128Gb card will give you 17 hours and 20 minutes before overwriting. Pretty important if you want to ensure that you capture something whilst you are away from the car. This is where your second question becomes important.
Blackvue have two 'hard wire' solutions. The first is the Power Magic Pro. Every single Blackvue Dash Cam purchased will benefit by being coupled with the Blackvue Power Magic Pro. In order to utilise a Parking mode or Motion detection feature on a Dash Cam, the unit requires constant power. This constant power can come from your vehicle via a hardwire kit or an external battery pack such as the B-112 or Cellink-B. The Power Magic Pro is a battery management tool that powers your Dash Cam while monitoring the voltages being output by your car battery to ensure it stays healthy and doesn't go flat. Power Magic Pro checks the health of your battery and has a pre-set “cutoff” point.
